Cheoy Lee 36 Sloop (Luders 36)

Cheoy Lee 36 Sloop (Luders 36)

Description

The Cheoy Lee 36 Sloop most commonly refers to the Luders 36 (also called Cheoy Lee Luders 36 or Luders Offshore 36), a classic fiberglass cruising sailboat built by Cheoy Lee Shipyard in Hong Kong from the late 1960s to late 1970s (primarily 1966–1978). Designed by A.E. "Bill" Luders Jr., it's a masthead sloop rig (with some examples available or converted to yawl/ketch), featuring traditional lines, a long keel with attached rudder for excellent tracking and protection, and Cheoy Lee's signature heavy construction with teak accents and joinery. The Luders 36 emphasizes seaworthiness, comfort, and solid build for coastal/offshore cruising, with a heavier displacement than lighter racers but more forgiving motion than modern fin-keel designs.
