Cheetah 26

Cheetah 26

Description

The Cheetah 26 (also known as the Cheetah 26 Monk) is a compact, budget-oriented fiberglass cruising sailboat designed by Edwin Monk Jr. (credited in some records as the primary naval architect), built primarily from 1974 to 1977 in Marysville, Washington, by Reinell Boat Co. as the assembler under a contract with Island Partners (later renamed Sun Yachts); approximately 85 hulls were produced during this short run, with some late examples badged as the "Reinell 27" for non-Northwest markets to clear inventory. It evolved into the Sun 27 (with Bob Perry revisions in 1977, including removal of the transom outboard well and a redesigned deck/cabin for improved aesthetics and functionality), featuring a simple masthead sloop rig, fin keel with cast iron ballast, spade rudder, transom-mounted outboard well for auxiliary power, modest plywood interior for economy, and good performance as a lightweight coastal cruiser suitable for entry-level sailors in areas like the Pacific Northwest.
