Chance 30/30 Allied
Description
The Allied Chance 30-30 (often written as Chance 30/30) is a performance-oriented fiberglass sailboat designed by renowned naval architect Britton Chance (known for America's Cup winner Intrepid) and built by the Allied Boat Company in Catskill, New York, from 1971 to 1974. It was Allied's only dedicated racer during their production years, blending IOR (International Offshore Rule) half-ton influences with Allied's signature overbuilt construction—thick hand-laid hulls for durability. Two variants existed: a shorter MORC (Midget Ocean Racing Club) version and a longer CCA/IOR version with an extended stern. It's a masthead sloop with a fin keel and spade rudder, offering good speed for club racing while being surprisingly capable (and comfortable) for coastal/offshore cruising thanks to its high ballast ratio and tank-like build. Owners describe it as fast yet forgiving, stiff, and seaworthy—many have logged extensive offshore miles.
