Celebrity K

Description

The Celebrity K (also known as the Celebrity Fin Keel or fixed-keel version of the Celebrity class sailboat) is a classic American one-design sailboat designed by Stan Evanson and Johann Wester. Introduced in 1952 by Evanson Boat Co. of Philadelphia, PA, it is based on the Dutch 16m² class (a traditional one-design dinghy). Early models were imported from Holland, but production soon shifted to the U.S., with construction evolving from strip-planked mahogany (with spruce spars) to molded plywood in the 1960s, and finally to fiberglass by 1972. The "K" variant features a fixed fin keel for enhanced stability compared to the centerboard model, making it suitable for both racing and day sailing. Both versions include a transom-mounted rudder initially, later updated to an inboard skeg-mounted rudder in the 1950s for better protection and handling.
