Catalina 390 Tall Mast
Description
The Catalina 390 Tall Mast (often called the Tall Rig variant) is the optional taller mast configuration offered on the Catalina 390 (a 2001–mid-2000s production coastal cruiser from Catalina Yachts, designed by Gerry Douglas). Catalina provided two rig options on the 390: Standard Rig: Mast height (air draft) ≈56 ft (from waterline to masthead, excluding antennas/windex). Tall Rig: Mast height (air draft) ≈60 ft — 4 ft taller than standard, for improved light-air performance and higher sail area. Key differences and specs for the Tall Rig (from sailboatdata.com, Catalina brochures, and owner data): I (foretriangle height): 54.00 ft (16.46 m) — vs. standard ~50.92 ft (15.52 m). J (foretriangle base): 14.67 ft (4.47 m) — same as standard. P (main luff): 47.92 ft (14.61 m) — vs. standard ~44.83 ft (13.66 m). E (main foot): 15.67 ft (4.78 m) — same or very similar.
