Catalina 28 Tall Rig
Description
The Catalina 28 is an American sailboat built by Catalina Yachts in the United States. Introduced in 1991, it was a popular small cruising keelboat known for its spacious interior, ease of handling, and affordability, making it a favorite among first-time boat owners and weekend cruisers. The model evolved through two versions: the original Catalina 28 (1991–1995) Built from 1991 to 1995, with 620 examples completed, and the Catalina 28 Mk II (1995–2010). The Catalina 28 was designed by Gerry Douglas, Catalina’s in-house designer, to replace the legendary Catalina 27 as the company’s entry-level cruising keelboat. It targeted sailors seeking a balance of modern amenities, predictable handling, and value, competing with boats like the Hunter 28.5 and Beneteau First 285.
