Catalina 27 Tall Rig
Description
The Catalina 27 Tall Rig is a compact, popular coastal cruiser designed by Frank Butler and G. Douglas (with input from Bob Finch) and built by Catalina Yachts from 1971 to 1991. Over 6,600 units were produced, making it a bestseller in its class. The Tall Rig variant features a taller mast (about 1.5–2 feet higher than the standard) and a small bowsprit, increasing sail area by roughly 6% for better light-air performance and upwind ability while retaining the boat's easy-handling reputation. It's well-suited for day sails, weekends, or short cruises, with a cozy interior that sleeps 5–6 and a forgiving design ideal for beginners or families. The hull emphasizes stability and interior volume for its size.
