Catalac 9M (Catalac 30)

Catalac 9M (Catalac 30)

Description

The Catalac 9M (commonly called the Catalac 30 or Catalac 9 metre) is the flagship and most popular model from the Catalac range of British cruising catamarans. It was the first major design in the series, introduced in 1971 (with production ramping up in the early 1970s), and remained in build until the company closed around 1986. The Catalac 9M is widely regarded as one of the best early-production cruising cats for family use—praised in reviews (e.g., Charles Kanter's Cruising in Catamarans and Jim Andrews' Catamarans for Cruising) for its safety, comfort, seakeeping, and build quality. It's often called a "motor-sailer" due to its boxy profile and modest rig, but it sails surprisingly well for its type (no heeling, stable platform, and decent performance in moderate winds). ~250–255 hulls built — the most successful Catalac model (out of ~600 total across the range)
