Carter30
Description
The Carter 30 is a classic cruiser-racer sailboat designed by renowned American naval architect Dick Carter (Richard "Dick" Carter, 1928–2017), famous for innovative IOR-era designs like Rabbit (1965 Fastnet winner) that helped pioneer separated rudders and fast, seaworthy hulls. Introduced in 1972, it was initially built in the UK by Northshore Yachts (Itchenor, England) as a production version of Carter's performance-oriented concepts. Early batches targeted racing (larger cockpit, bigger sailplan), but later versions shifted to family cruising (smaller cockpit, fitted interior). Production continued until around 1990, with later hulls built by Strettin (Poland, sometimes listed as Teliga 30 variant) and an unknown builder in Japan. Estimates suggest at least 300 hulls total.
