Carter 2 Ton

Carter 2 Ton

Description

The Carter 2 Ton (also known as the Carter 42 or Carter 2-Tonner in some contexts) is a classic IOR-era offshore racing sailboat designed by legendary American naval architect Dick Carter (Richard "Dick" Carter, 1934–2017). Carter was a pioneering designer famous for revolutionary boats like Rabbit (1965 Fastnet winner) and Tina (multiple One Ton Cup victor), emphasizing fast, seaworthy hulls with innovative keels and rigs. This model was built to compete under the International Offshore Rule (IOR) in the Two Ton Cup class (largest of the level-rating offshore classes, for boats around 40–42 ft). It was produced in limited numbers starting around 1980, with only about 12 hulls built—making it rare and collectible today.
