Cape George 31 Ketch

Description

"Bristol Pilot Cutter" type. 31' on deck, 36' LOA w/bowsprit. Full keel. Displacement 15,835 lbs. as typical yard build; owner completions vary to heavier displacements if interiors overbuilt. Cutter rig. Following sail measurements from yard-supplied blueprints. Some deviations noted for short, standard or tall rigs that were optional. Ballasted with 7,600 lbs lead plus 47 gals. water, 45 gals. diesel and approx 500 lbs engine, all below roll center, yield nearly 8,800 lbs. effective ballast. Beam of 9'6" permits ready 5 degree heel in light wind after which massive ballast stiffens boat. Blueprints list main at 282.5 sq ft, 100% yankee at 352 sq ft, and 130% genoa at 458.5 sq ft. Heavy ballast will carry the 741 sq ft of main & genoa well into 20 kt winds before 1st reef is called for. HOWEVER, this means KATE can put high stress on sail cloth.

Disclaimer. Boats are not all the same -- even when produced in the same factory of the same model. Sailrite does its best to publish accurate dimensions, but we often find it worthwhile to have our customers measure their boats carefully before we produce kits for them. You should take the same precautions, especially when the data is not from Sailrite.
