C&C 66
Description
The C&C 66 (also referred to as the C&C Custom 66 or simply C&C 66) is an extremely rare, one-off or very limited-production custom racing/cruising sailboat from C&C Yachts' custom division (Cuthbertson & Cassian, or "C&C Custom"), built in 1973. This was one of the largest fiberglass yachts produced by C&C at the time—groundbreaking as a large GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) sandwich-construction boat, building on innovations from earlier models like the C&C 40 "Red Jacket" (the first cored-hull design in 1966). Only one well-documented example exists: the iconic yacht Phantom (originally built for Ralph Ryder of Ryder Trucks fame), with no evidence of a production series or multiple hulls beyond this custom build. Designed by George Cuthbertson and George Cassian (the C&C founding duo), it blended high-performance racing heritage (IOR-era influences) with cruiser capability—fast, stiff, and capable for offshore passages while offering luxurious accommodations for its era.
