C&C 48 Custom
Description
The C&C 48 Custom is a rare, semi-custom Canadian racing/cruising sailboat from C&C Yachts' custom division, designed by the C&C Design Group (Cuthbertson & Cassian) and first built in 1973 (design year 1972). It was part of C&C's early custom offerings in the 1970s, with a limited production run (likely fewer than 10–15 hulls, based on known examples like "Morning Star," "Discovery," "Ensign Four," and others). This model emphasized high performance with a racing pedigree—stiff, fast, and competitive—while incorporating custom rig/layout options and comfortable accommodations for offshore or coastal cruising. It pioneered aspects like balsa-cored fiberglass construction for lightness and strength, and it was built as a masthead sloop with a fin keel and spade rudder for excellent handling and upwind ability. Known hulls have been well-regarded for their timeless lines, solid build quality, and versatility—some campaigned successfully in races before transitioning to family cruising.
