C&C 43 Mk I Tall

C&C 43 Mk I Tall

Description

The C&C 43 Mk I Tall Rig (also called the C&C 43-1 Tall Mast or TM variant) was a factory option on the limited-edition semi-custom C&C 43-1 (1971–early 1970s production, ~15 hulls total). It featured a taller mast for increased sail area and better light-air performance compared to the standard rig, while retaining the same hull, keel, and overall design philosophy—high-performance racer/cruiser with IOR influences, stiff build, and comfortable motion. This tall rig boosted power (especially upwind and in moderate breezes) without major structural changes—common for racing-oriented C&Cs of the era to optimize for varying conditions or PHRF ratings.
