C&C 36R
Description
The C&C 36R, designed by the C&C Design Group with Rob Ball and built by C&C Yachts in Canada from 1972 to 1974 in only 30–35 hulls, is a pure IOR-era grand-prix racer featuring a 35.58-foot LOA, 11.5-foot beam, ultra-light 9,500-pound displacement, and a deep 7.0-foot elliptical lead fin keel with 4,600 pounds of ballast for an aggressive SA/D over 24 and PHRF ratings of 78–90. Its towering triple-spreader fractional rig with rod rigging and ~680 square feet of sail area propelled it to 1973 SORC class victory, 3rd overall, and Canada’s Cup selection dominance, while the lightweight foam-cored hull, high-aspect spade rudder, and flush racing deck with open transom deliver blistering speed and planning ability downwind in 16+ knots. The stripped interior—pipe berths, no galley, minimal nav—prioritizes performance over comfort, demanding skilled crew and early reefing in gusts. Renowned as one of the fastest production 36-footers of its decade, the C&C 36R remains a coveted vintage weapon in PHRF and classic regattas,
