Cambria 40
Description
The Cambria 40 is a premium performance cruising sailboat, part of the respected Cambria series designed by David Walters (of David Walters Yachts) and built as a semi-custom yacht. Introduced in the mid-1980s (first built around 1985), it aimed to deliver fast, comfortable passagemaking with build quality rivaling top New England yards like Hinckley, Alden, and Little Harbor. Early production occurred in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, with later hulls (or molds) associated with Cabo Rico Custom Yachts in Costa Rica for some builds. Only a limited number were produced—about eight from the 40 molds—making them rare and sought-after among serious cruisers. This is a balanced "gentleman's racer-cruiser": spirited performance for shorthanded sailing or offshore racing (some have competed in events like Newport to Bermuda), yet sea-kindly and comfortable for extended bluewater or coastal cruising. It features a fin keel with spade rudder for good handling and speed, Airex-cored fiberglass hull, Divinycell-cored deck for strength and lightness, and elegant, high-end interiors with teak joinery.
