Caliber 33
Description
The Caliber 33 is a classic American bluewater cruising cutter designed by Michael McCreary. Built by Caliber Yachts in Clearwater, Florida, from 1986 to 1991, approximately 70 hulls were produced. It features a moderate-displacement fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for protected tracking and stability, solid hand-laid fiberglass construction (balsa-cored deck for strength), and a cutter rig for versatile sail handling on coastal or short offshore passages. Renowned for its seaworthiness, dry center cockpit, and balanced performance in 10–20 knots, it's well-suited for couples or small families, with a stiff, forgiving ride; however, as 35+ year-old boats, surveys should prioritize chainplates, keel bolts, and thru-hull fittings. Note: This model was later extended (transom) and renamed the Caliber 35 in 1992, evolving further into the Caliber 35 LRC in 1995.
