Caledonia Yawl Gunter Rig

Description

The 19'6" Caledonia Yawl with Gunter Rig is a specific configuration of Iain Oughtred's renowned Caledonia Yawl design, first introduced in 1988. This version features a gunter rig, a variation of the traditional lug sail setup, which combines the simplicity of a lug sail with the versatility of a sliding gunter spar. Built primarily by amateur constructors using glued-lapstrake plywood, it is celebrated for its seaworthiness, rowing capability, and suitability for coastal cruising and multi-day "raid" events. The gunter rig replaces the original balanced lug or gaff yawl options, offering a simpler setup with a single spar that slides up the mast. Plans from Oughtred include detailed instructions, requiring no lofting. Lightweight (450 lb.) and trailerable, with built-in buoyancy tanks and optional airbags. The double-ended design enhances tracking and wave-handling.

Custom sail calculations are not possible for this boat as no I, J, P and E dimensions are available.

Disclaimer. Boats are not all the same -- even when produced in the same factory of the same model. Sailrite does its best to publish accurate dimensions, but we often find it worthwhile to have our customers measure their boats carefully before we produce kits for them. You should take the same precautions, especially when the data is not from Sailrite.
