Description
The Cal 35 Cruising Ketch is a classic American bluewater-capable cruiser designed by C. William Lapworth as a ketch-rigged variant of the comfort-focused Cal 35 Cruise sloop. Built by Jensen Marine/Cal Boats from 1973 to 1974, approximately 120 hulls were produced in the broader Cruise series, with the ketch configuration being a popular optional rig for easier sail handling and balance on extended passages. It features a moderate-displacement fin keel with spade rudder for responsive yet stable tracking, solid hand-laid fiberglass construction (balsa-cored deck on some), and a masthead ketch rig ideal for coastal cruising, family weekends, or short offshore voyages. Renowned for its seaworthiness, dry ride in 15–25 knots, and generous interior for the era, it's forgiving in moderate conditions.
