CAL 2-29
Description
The Cal 2-29 is an American cruiser-racer sailboat designed by William "Bill" Lapworth and built by Jensen Marine (later Bangor Punta) from 1974 to 1977. An evolution of the earlier Cal 29 (1968-1972), it was designed for coastal cruising with racing potential, offering a blend of performance, comfort, and durability for small families or couples. The boat features a solid fiberglass hull, a fin keel, and a skeg-hung rudder, making it suitable for weekend trips, extended coastal voyages, or club racing under PHRF (typical rating ~168-174). Approximately 600 units were built, and its robust construction and spacious interior have kept it popular in the used market, with prices ranging from $10,000 to $25,000 depending on condition. It's praised for its seaworthiness and handling but requires maintenance on aging systems like rigging and the original Atomic 4 gas engine.
