Cal 2-27
Description
The Cal 2-27 is an American cruiser-racer sailboat designed by C. William Lapworth and built by Jensen Marine (Cal Yachts) under Bangor Punta Corporation from 1974 to 1979. As a second-generation upgrade to the original Cal 27 (1971–1977), it features a wider beam, increased displacement, and an inboard diesel option for improved cruising comfort while retaining racing capability. Approximately 300–400 units were produced, making it less common than the original’s ~500–600 hulls. Intended for coastal cruising, weekend getaways, and club racing, it appeals to couples, small families, and budget-conscious sailors. Owners praise its “roomy interior, stable handling, and solid build,” with active PHRF fleets in regions like California, the Chesapeake Bay, and the Great Lakes.
