Cabot 36
Description
The Cabot 36 is a classic Canadian blue water cruising sailboat designed by renowned naval architects Ted Brewer and Robert Walstrom, and originally built by Cabotcraft Industries in Sydney, Nova Scotia, from 1974 to 1978. Only 49 units were produced during this short run, as the company folded due to economic challenges, including rising fiberglass resin costs from the oil crisis and reduced government funding. Some were sold as bare hulls or kits for custom finishing. The design emphasizes seaworthiness, comfort in North Atlantic conditions, and safety for long passages, with a modified full keel featuring the signature "Brewer Bite" for improved maneuverability. Production briefly revived around 2005–2008 by Yachtsmiths International using the original molds, but no significant numbers were built. As of September 2025, these rare vessels are highly sought after by enthusiasts for their robust construction and cult following among owners, who praise their "toughness, sea-kindliness, and comfort" on extended cruises. Used examples remain available, though scarcity drives steady resale values.

Disclaimer. Boats are not all the same -- even when produced in the same factory of the same model. Sailrite does its best to publish accurate dimensions, but we often find it worthwhile to have our customers measure their boats carefully before we produce kits for them. You should take the same precautions, especially when the data is not from Sailrite.
