Discovery 20 Trimaran

Discovery 20 Trimaran

Description

The Discovery 20 trimaran is a fast, fun daysailer with camper/cruiser potential for adventurous use. Chris White designed it in the early 1980s as a lightweight, trailerable pocket tri for day sailing, occasional overnighting, or coastal hops, emphasizing simplicity, performance, and ease of setup. It's not a mass-production boat but a plans-built or home-built design (a few professional or amateur examples exist). The Discovery 20 was later updated to the Discovery 21 (slightly longer, more powerful, with refinements like a carbon wing mast option in some builds). The 20-footer uses wood/epoxy/glass composite construction (often Constant Camber hull panels for rounded-Vee sections), deep vertical folding webs for the amas (outriggers), and a daggerboard in the main hull.
