Brise de Mer 34
Description
The Brise de Mer 34 is a classic French aluminum bluewater cruiser designed by the renowned Groupe Finot (Jean Marie Finot) and built by Le Guen-Hemidy (FRA) from 1975 to around 1987, with only about 32 hulls produced—making it quite rare. It's celebrated for its robust welded aluminum construction (light yet incredibly strong and corrosion-resistant for offshore use), good performance, and seaworthy qualities. Owners describe it as sailing "like a demon" in moderate to strong winds, with excellent handling in blue water, large waves, and F5–F6 conditions—proven by solo Atlantic crossings, Panama Canal transits, and extended Chilean/Pacific voyages. This masthead sloop (with fin keel and skeg-hung rudder) is a light-to-moderate displacement boat that's stiff, stable, and a solid performer for coastal/offshore cruising. It's not ultra-heavy like some traditional bluewater tanks but offers great speed potential in breeze while being manageable for shorthanded crews. Some variants feature lifting keels for shallower draft versatility.
