Description
The Brewer Union 32' Cutter (commonly known as the Union 32, EO 32, East Orient 32, or Shearwater 32) is a Ted Brewer-designed 32-foot (approximately 31'9" LOA) fiberglass cruising cutter from the early 1980s. Ted Brewer (Edward S. Brewer), a prolific Canadian-American naval architect famous for seaworthy designs like the Whitby 42 and his own 12.8/44 series, created this as a compact, heavy-displacement offshore-capable cruiser built in Taiwan by Young Sun (primarily marketed as East Orient or Union Yachts in the U.S.). It's a classic example of Brewer's philosophy: moderate-to-heavy displacement for comfortable motion in a seaway, a full or long keel for tracking and stability, a cutter rig for versatile shorthanded sailing, and solid construction suited to coastal/bluewater use (e.g., liveaboard, extended cruising, or Bahamas gunkholing).
