Brewer 44
Description
The Brewer 44 (also known as the Brewer 44 Cutter or sometimes grouped with the Brewer 12.8/44 family) is a 44-foot center-cockpit cruising cutter designed by renowned naval architect Ted Brewer (Edward S. Brewer). Built by Fort Myers Yacht & Shipbuilding (Florida) from approximately 1984 to 1990 (with production numbers around 60 or fewer), it's essentially an updated and stretched evolution of the earlier Brewer 12.8 (which itself refined the popular Whitby 42). Key enhancements include a molded-in reverse transom/swim platform (enlarging the aft cabin slightly), a slightly tweaked keel/centerboard configuration, and a refined sailplan for better performance and handling. This is a classic, heavy-displacement bluewater cruiser: proven seaworthy, comfortable for extended voyages (e.g., coastal, Caribbean, or offshore passages), and favored by couples or small families for its spacious, protected center cockpit, stable motion, and shorthanded-friendly cutter rig. Owners frequently call it a "thoroughbred" or "top-of-the-line" Ted Brewer design—solid, forgiving, and built to last with solid fiberglass construction (no core in the hull for durability).
