Brewer 12.8
Description
The Brewer 12.8 (also known as the Brewer 42 or Brewer 12.8m) is a 42-foot center-cockpit cruising cutter designed by renowned naval architect Ted Brewer (Edward S. Brewer). It was commissioned in the early 1980s by experienced owners from the Knickerbocker Yacht Club (Manhasset Bay, NY) who sought refinements to the popular Whitby 42 (a 1970s Ted Brewer design built by Whitby Boat Works in Canada and later Fort Myers Yacht & Shipbuilding in Florida). Built primarily by Fort Myers Yacht & Shipbuilding (Florida) starting around 1983, only a limited number were produced (fewer than the Whitby 42's ~200+). It's a true bluewater-capable cruiser: comfortable motion, forgiving, and seaworthy for extended coastal/offshore passages, with owners reporting excellent balance, short-handed capability even in heavy weather, and roomy living spaces for families or couples.
