Bowman 40
Description
The Bowman 40 is a classic bluewater cruising sailboat (yacht), renowned for its seaworthiness, solid build quality, and suitability for long-distance ocean passages. There are two main versions of the Bowman 40: An earlier design by Jack Laurent Giles (from the 1970s, built by Emsworth Marine). The more modern and commonly referenced version designed by Chuck Paine (starting around 1987, built by Southern Boat Building / Bowman Yachts in the UK, with hulls often finished elsewhere like Holland). The Chuck Paine version is the one most people mean when referring to the "Bowman 40" today—it's a development with a longer waterline, taller rig, deeper keel options (often a Scheel keel for better performance and shallower draft), and improved handling.
