Bombay Clipper 31
Description
The Bombay Clipper 31 (often just called the Bombay Clipper) is a 31-foot monohull fiberglass cruising sailboat designed by Walter Scott and built by New Bombay Trading Co. (Florida, USA) starting in 1975. It was produced through the late 1970s/early 1980s by Bombay Yachts (founded by former Irwin Yachts executives Ross James and Chris Petty, who left Irwin to start their own line after successes like the Irwin 10/4 cat sloop). This design emerged during the boom in affordable coastal cruisers in the 1970s, emphasizing roomy interiors, stability, and value over cutting-edge performance. It's known for generous accommodations (often described as "roomy for its size" with two cabins sleeping 4–6 comfortably), a beamy hull for stability, and solid build quality—many are still sailing today, with owners praising its comfort, light-air performance, and coastal cruising ability (protected to semi-protected waters, some longer passages).
