Bolger that sits somewhere between a very basic dinghy and a sailboard in concept, created to be extremely cheap, fast to build from plywood, and easy for beginners or experimenters to handle. In classic Bolger fashion, it uses flat panels, straight lines, and boxy geometry to minimize woodworking skill and construction time, while still offering a lively, fun sailing experience in sheltered waters. It’s typically light enough to be cartopped or easily trailered, with a simple unstayed or lightly stayed rig, modest sail area, and minimal fittings so costs stay low and maintenance is nearly zero. Intended more as a “fun machine” and learning platform than a refined racing dinghy, Dynamite captures Bolger’s philosophy of maximum utility and access to sailing for people with limited money, space, or boatbuilding experience.
