Description
The Beneteau Moorings 38 (sometimes listed as Moorings 38 or Beneteau 38M) is a charter-oriented cruising sailboat from the early 1990s, built by Beneteau primarily for The Moorings yacht charter fleet. These boats were designed for heavy rental use in locations like the Caribbean, with durable construction, practical layouts, and modifications for easier maintenance and shallower drafts to suit island-hopping. There are two closely related versions: The original Moorings 38 (≈1990–1992): Based on the Beneteau First 38 hull, but with charter tweaks like a shorter rig, shallower keel options, and interior changes for guest comfort and durability. The Moorings 38-2 (or Beneteau 38M, mid-1990s): Uses the same hull as the performance-oriented First 38S5, but with a different deck, fractional rig, and charter-specific adaptations (some built at Beneteau USA). Many of these have since been sold into private hands after charter retirement, and they're known for solid build quality—surviving years of hard use without major structural failures.
