Beneteau Oceanis 400
Description
The Beneteau Oceanis 400 is a high-volume cruising sloop from the French builder Beneteau, introduced in 1991 as part of the second-generation Oceanis series. Designed by Jean-Marie Finot of Groupe Finot (now Finot-Conq), it was produced until 1997, with approximately 474 units built—making it one of Beneteau's best-selling models of the era. This 40-foot (12.2m) performer emphasizes spacious accommodations, easy handling, and balanced sailing for coastal and offshore cruising. It was an early adopter of in-mast furling for simplified sail management, appealing to families, charter fleets (e.g., Moorings 405 variant), and liveaboards. A center-cockpit version (Oceanis 400 CC, introduced 1995) offers enhanced privacy and interior volume, while the 1997 Oceanis 411 update features a slightly extended transom for a larger swim platform.
