Beneteau First IMS 407
Description
The Beneteau First 40.7 is a high-performance fractional sloop designed by Bruce Farr (Farr Yacht Design #354) and built by Beneteau in France from 1997 to 2004. Optimized for IMS (International Measurement System) handicap racing, it became an instant hit as a versatile racer-cruiser, dominating events like the Chicago-Mackinac Race and earning a reputation for blending blistering speed with family-friendly comfort. Over 550 units were produced, fostering vibrant one-design fleets worldwide (e.g., in the U.S., Europe, and Australia). Variants include a shoal-draft keel (6.17 ft) with iron ballast for shallower waters and charter versions like the Moorings 40.7 with reinforced interiors.
