Beneteau First 45f5 Standard Rig
Description
The Beneteau First 45f5 (often referred to as the "45fs" in shorthand) is a flagship French cruiser-racer sailboat designed by Jean Berret of Berret-Racoupeau Yacht Design with interior styling by Philippe Starck, and built by Beneteau from 1990 to 1996, with approximately 150 hulls produced in France. Measuring 46 feet 3 inches in length overall (waterline length 37 feet 9 inches, beam 13 feet 11 inches), it features a lightweight fiberglass hull—solid laminate below the waterline with balsa-cored deck—and is offered in deep fin keel (7 feet 3 inches draft), standard fin (6 feet 3 inches), or shoal draft (5 feet 7 inches) configurations, with a displacement of 20,944 pounds and 8,818 pounds of ballast (42% ratio) for outstanding stability and blue water capability. The Standard Rig fractional sloop configuration delivers a sail area of approximately 980 square feet (SA/D ~19.5), balancing powerful upwind performance with manageable handling for short-handed cruising or PHRF/IMS racing, while a taller “Performance Rig” option was also available.
