Bayfield 32

Description

The Bayfield 32 (originally marketed as the Bayfield 30 until 1975) is a Canadian cruising sailboat designed by naval architect Ted Gozzard and built by Bayfield Boat Yard Ltd. in Bayfield, Ontario, from 1973 to 1986. Approximately 300–350 hulls were produced, making it one of the yard's most successful models and a staple of Great Lakes cruising. The design bucks the 1970s trend of fin-keeled racer-cruisers, opting for a long, full keel, cutter rig, and traditional clipper bow with bowsprit for a "shippy" aesthetic that emphasizes seaworthiness and comfort over speed. Variants include a standard cutter, a few ketches (with a second mast in the cockpit), and rare tall-rig sloops (Bayfield 32C, with 4 ft extra mast height and extended bowsprit for better light-air performance). It's ideal for family coastal cruising, single-handing, or short offshore passages (e.g., to Bermuda or the Caribbean), with a stable, forgiving platform for beginners or couples. Disclaimer. Boats are not all the same -- even when produced in the same factory of the same model. Sailrite does its best to publish accurate dimensions, but we often find it worthwhile to have our customers measure their boats carefully before we produce kits for them. You should take the same precautions, especially when the data is not from Sailrite.
