Bayfield 29

Description

The Bayfield 29 is a Canadian pocket cruiser sailboat designed by naval architect Ted Gozzard and built by Bayfield Boat Yard Ltd. in Bayfield, Ontario, from 1978 to 1983. Approximately 350 hulls were produced, making it a sought-after model for its blend of traditional aesthetics and practical cruising features. An evolution of the smaller Bayfield 25, it features a long, full keel for stability, a cutter rig for versatile sail handling, and a built-in bowsprit with stylized wooden trailboards for a classic "shippy" look. The design emphasizes comfort and seaworthiness for couples or single-handers, ideal for coastal cruising, lake sailing, or short offshore passages—owners report successful voyages to Bermuda or the Bahamas with proper preparation. It's trailerable (though challenging due to weight) and forgiving for novices, with a stable platform in moderate conditions, but it's not a high-performance racer (PHRF ~240–270). L.W.L.: 21' 9" (6.60 m) Beam: 10' 2" (3.10 m) Draft: 3' 6" 1.07 m) Displacement: 7100 lbs. (3220 kg.) Ballast: 3000 lbs. (1361 kg.)

Disclaimer. Boats are not all the same -- even when produced in the same factory of the same model. Sailrite does its best to publish accurate dimensions, but we often find it worthwhile to have our customers measure their boats carefully before we produce kits for them. You should take the same precautions, especially when the data is not from Sailrite.
