Barbary 32 Ketch
Description
The Barbary 32 Ketch (also known as the Barbary Class Ketch) is a classic British motor-sailer from the early 1970s, highly regarded for its sturdy construction, excellent seakeeping, and protected cockpit—making it a favorite among owners who prioritize comfort and safety in challenging conditions over pure racing performance. Designed by Walter F. Rayner and built by Robert Ives (and later associated with Frederick Mitchell and Sons) starting around 1970, these boats were constructed in GRP (fiberglass) under Lloyd's supervision in many cases. They're often described as "motor-sailers" due to their heavy displacement, powerful auxiliary engine, and ketch rig, which allows easy handling by a couple or even single-handed.
