Baltic 55
Description
The Baltic 55 (commonly known as the Baltic 55 DP) is a high-performance racer-cruiser designed by renowned American naval architect Doug Peterson, built by Baltic Yachts in Finland, and first introduced in 1984. Production continued until 1989, resulting in a total of 9 hulls built—a very limited semi-custom series that exemplified Baltic's expertise in blending grand prix racing performance with offshore cruising capability during the late IOR/early IMS transition era. Outstanding characteristics include its light-to-moderate displacement advanced fiberglass construction with balsa core for exceptional stiffness-to-weight ratio and durability, masthead sloop rig for powerful, balanced, and efficient sailing, strong all-around speed with excellent upwind performance (proven in ocean races and as a "rule beater" while offering comfortable motion for extended passages), spacious and elegantly appointed interior with generous accommodations, headroom, and meticulous teak finishes typical of Baltic's superb Finnish craftsmanship, functional near-flush deck with double cockpit layout for safe and ergonomic handling, and a lasting reputation for seaworthiness, responsiveness, and timeless appeal—often celebrated as one of Baltic's iconic 1980s models that remains highly desirable and competitive in the used market.
