Baltic 51
Description
The Baltic 51 is a classic high-performance racer-cruiser designed by C&C Design (the renowned Canadian firm led by George Cuthbertson, George Cassian, and their team), built by Baltic Yachts in Finland, and first introduced in 1979. Production continued until 1988, resulting in a total of 24 hulls built—a relatively limited semi-custom series that became one of Baltic's early iconic models, blending IOR racing optimization with practical cruising appeal. Outstanding characteristics include its medium-to-heavy displacement yet stiff fiberglass construction with balsa core for excellent strength-to-weight ratio and durability, masthead sloop rig for powerful, balanced, and easily handled performance, strong all-around speed with particularly good upwind ability (proven in IOR competition while remaining versatile for family or offshore use), spacious and well-appointed interior with generous accommodations, headroom, and elegant teak finishes typical of Baltic's superb Finnish craftsmanship, functional deck layout for safe and efficient sailing, and a lasting reputation for seaworthiness, comfort, and timeless appeal—often celebrated as a benchmark of 1980s performance yachts that holds strong value and desirability in the used market today.
