Baltic 46
Description
The Baltic 46 is a landmark performance-oriented racer-cruiser that served as the inaugural model for Baltic Yachts, designed by the renowned Canadian firm C&C Design (led by George Cuthbertson and George Cassian), built by Baltic Yachts in Finland, and first introduced in 1973 (with the first hull launched around 1974 and shown at the Hamburg Boat Show). Production ran until 1977, resulting in a total of 11 hulls built—a limited run that underscores its status as a pioneering, semi-custom project for the young yard. Outstanding characteristics include its advanced sandwich/fiberglass construction (with balsa core and innovative features like epoxy-bonded teak decks for strength and durability), masthead sloop rig for powerful and balanced performance, strong ocean-racing capabilities combined with comfortable cruising accommodations (optimized through tank testing for excellent handling and speed under IOR influences), spacious and well-appointed interior with elegant styling by Baltic's in-house team, exceptional Finnish craftsmanship that set the yard's reputation for quality, and a lasting legacy as a proven, seaworthy classic—often celebrated for its role in Baltic's early success and enduring appeal among enthusiasts of vintage performance yachts.
