Baltic 38
Description
The Baltic 38 (commonly referred to as the Baltic 38DP) is a high-performance racer-cruiser designed by renowned American naval architect Doug Peterson, built by Baltic Yachts in Finland, and first introduced in 1982. Production continued until 1989 (with some sources noting a final hull in 1993 for a founder), resulting in a total of 55 hulls built (though a few references cite 56), establishing it as one of Baltic's most successful semi-production models from that era. Outstanding characteristics include its lightweight yet robust fiberglass construction with balsa core for exceptional stiffness and reduced weight, masthead sloop rig for powerful and balanced performance, strong upwind ability and speed (optimized as an IOR "rule beater" while excelling as a versatile cruiser), comfortable interior layout with good accommodations and headroom for family or offshore sailing, superb build quality featuring elegant teak interiors and thoughtful details typical of Baltic Yachts, and a lasting reputation for seaworthiness, responsiveness, and enduring value—often hailed as a timeless favorite that sails beautifully in varied conditions and remains highly sought after in the used market.
