Balboa 22
Description
The Balboa 22 is a lightweight, trailerable fiberglass sailboat designed by Lyle C. Hess and initially built by Balboa Boat Company (also known as Arthur Marine) from 1977 to the late 1970s, with production continued by Coastal Recreation, Inc. until 1981, totaling approximately 200–300 units. Featuring a fin keel or optional centerboard, spade rudder, raked stem, and reverse transom, it’s optimized for coastal cruising and club racing under MORC (Midget Ocean Racing Club) rules (PHRF ~240–260). Powered by an outboard auxiliary (typically 4–8 hp in a well), with tiller steering, it offers agile handling and a compact yet functional interior for weekend overnights.
