Description

The B-25 (also known as the Beiley B-25) is a high-performance racing sailboat designed by Leif Beiley and built by Bboats in the USA, primarily in Long Beach, California, starting in 1989. Often regarded as one of the first "sport boats," it's a lightweight, trailerable racer emphasizing speed, simplicity, and one-design racing. With a production run producing around 50 hulls (up to at least hull #41), it's constructed with advanced materials like Kevlar with epoxy over PVC foam core (Divinycell 80, not balsa) for a stiff, light hull, and marine plywood for bulkheads and frames. The design focuses on trailerability, low weight (under 1,800 lb. dry), and agility, making it ideal for club racing, MORC (Midget Ocean Racing Club), or PHRF events—typically rating around 138, with modifications like a full roach main (-3 rating) or high-aspect rudder (-3) allowing further optimization. It's suited for short-handed crews (2–4 people) and excels in light to moderate winds but can feel tender in heavy air due to its low ballast/displacement ratio. While primarily a racer, it can be adapted for daysailing with roller furling and outboard auxiliary.
