Amel Kirk 36
Description
The Amel Kirk 36 (also simply called the Kirk) is a classic French-built cruising monohull designed by Henri Amel himself, the founder of Chantiers Amel in La Rochelle. Launched in 1971 as Amel's first major commercial success (over 100 units produced by 1978), it marked the yard's early focus on seaworthy, owner-friendly blue water yachts. At 36 feet, it's compact yet robust, with a narrow hull for slicing through waves, a low center-of-gravity bulb keel for exceptional stability, and thoughtful features like protected cockpits and easy single-handing setups—hallmarks of Amel's philosophy. Built during an era when long-distance cruising demanded durability over speed, the Kirk 36 excels as a coastal or ocean-crossing vessel for couples or small families, prioritizing safety and comfort over luxury volume.
