Alpa 8.25
Description
The Alpa 8.25 (also listed as Alpa 825 or Alpa 8.25) is a classic Italian fiberglass sailboat built by Alpa Yachts (ITA) from 1967 to around 1983. It's one of the more successful and longest-produced models from Alpa, an early pioneer in GRP (fiberglass) construction in Europe (founded 1956). Designed by British naval architect Alan Buchanan (via Illingworth & Primrose influences in some sources, though often credited to modern IOR-inspired lines), it features innovative-for-its-time hull shaping: a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for improved performance over traditional long-keel boats. This made it a step forward from older designs, offering better handling, speed, and upwind ability while remaining suitable for coastal cruising and occasional offshore jaunts. It's a compact, responsive masthead sloop—lively and fun to sail, with a moderate displacement that gives it a good turn of speed in moderate winds, balanced helm, and decent accommodations for 4 (V-berth forward, saloon settees convertible to berths, small galley/head). Owners appreciate its solid build, easy single-handing, and classic European styling.
