Allmand Sail Hms 23
Description
The Allmand HMS 23 (also known as the Allmand 23 or simply HMS 23) is a compact American coastal cruiser and motorsailer designed by Halsey Chase Herreshoff (often credited as "Helsen" in some sources) and built by Allmand Boats Inc. in Hialeah, Florida, starting in 1975 (primarily 1976 models). This cutter-rigged sloop features a pilothouse (raised cabin) for all-weather visibility, making it a unique "motor sailing yacht" suitable for protected inland waters, lakes, or short coastal hops. With options for fixed or swing keel, it's trailerable and shallow-draft friendly, emphasizing ease of handling for families or solo sailors. Production was extremely limited (fewer than 50 units, built in very small numbers), as Allmand, a powerboat specialist, entered the sailboat market during the 1970s energy crisis but exited by 1985 due to bankruptcy. The design draws from the Watkins 23XL hull (also influenced by Herreshoff), with a focus on stability and comfort over speed.

Disclaimer. Boats are not all the same -- even when produced in the same factory of the same model. Sailrite does its best to publish accurate dimensions, but we often find it worthwhile to have our customers measure their boats carefully before we produce kits for them. You should take the same precautions, especially when the data is not from Sailrite.
