Allied 39
Description
The Allied 39 is a rare fiberglass cruising sailboat built by the Allied Boat Company in Catskill, New York, between approximately 1970 and 1973. It evolved from the wooden Owens Cutter design, with an intermediate fiberglass version (only 6 built) known as the Borsaw 40. Allied acquired the molds and modified it: switching to a reverse transom, redesigning the underbody with a modern fin keel (by Robert Harris), and adding slightly more beam for improved stability and interior volume. Available in sloop or yawl rig, it's a capable offshore cruiser with classic lines, a slim beam for its length, and Allied's signature heavy-duty construction (thick hand-laid fiberglass). Only a small number were produced, making it quite uncommon today. (Note: This is distinct from Allied's more common Mistress 39 ketch, which shares the builder but is a different design.)
