Alerion Express 28

Description

Introduced in 1990. The Alerion Express 28 (AE28) is a premium American daysailer and pocket cruiser designed by Carl Schumacher, introduced in 1990. Inspired by Nathanael Herreshoff’s 1912 Alerion III, it blends classic elegance with modern performance, featuring a fractional sloop rig with a self-tacking jib for effortless single-handing. Built for day sailing, light racing, and weekend cruising, it’s known for its responsive handling, spacious cockpit (seats 4–6), and timeless lines. Over 470 units have been produced by builders like TPI Composites and Alerion Yachts, with production continuing as of 2025. It’s not a blue water cruiser but excels in coastal waters like Long Island Sound, San Francisco Bay, or Chesapeake Bay. Owners praise its beauty and ease but note its high cost and compact interior.

Disclaimer. Boats are not all the same -- even when produced in the same factory of the same model. Sailrite does its best to publish accurate dimensions, but we often find it worthwhile to have our customers measure their boats carefully before we produce kits for them. You should take the same precautions, especially when the data is not from Sailrite.
