Alerion Express 20

Description

The Alerion Express 20 is a sleek, lightweight fiberglass daysailer designed by Carl Schumacher for Alerion Yachts, introduced in 1996 as a compact, high-performance evolution of the Herreshoff-inspired Alerion Express 28, drawing from Nathanael Herreshoff’s 1912 Alerion III. With approximately 100–150 units built as of 2025, it features a fractional sloop rig with a Hoyt Jib Boom for effortless single-handing, a bulb keel, spade rudder, and elegant classic lines (raked stem, refined sheer). Powered by an optional outboard (2–4 hp, typically in a well), with tiller steering, it’s optimized for day sailing with a spacious cockpit and minimal cabin, ideal for solo sailors or small groups seeking a “pure sailing” experience.
