Alden 44

Description

The Alden 44 is a highly regarded American fiberglass sailboat designed by Alden Associates (under Niels Helleberg) as a performance-oriented bluewater racer-cruiser, influenced by John G. Alden's legacy of elegant, seaworthy designs. First built in 1976 by Tillotson-Pearson (later TPI) in Rhode Island, it was produced until around 1991 with about 40 hulls completed. It's known for its balanced performance, sturdy construction, classic lines (raked stem, reverse transom, skeg-hung rudder), and versatility—suitable for offshore passages, coastal cruising, or even IOR racing in its era. Owners praise it as a "dream yacht": pretty, fast, comfortable (sleeps up to 8 in some layouts), and solidly built for long-distance voyaging.
